Jobs Created

This web site is an historical record of the Objective 1 Programme 2000 - 2008 in Ceredigion (and as such it is now dormant). For current European funding enquires please contact ewro@ceredigion.gov.uk

Since 2000, around 849 jobs have been created in Ceredigion by local Objective 1 projects.

In February, WEFO reported a further 2759 jobs created within Ceredigion through regional projects

- there are 68 local projects. These are a few of the individuals who have directly benefited from

job creation in Ceredigion..

Regional Projects occur where there are more than one county running the funding, for example

Objective One money is given to the Wales Tourist Board and more than one county can apply

for the funding. Local projects are those which only run in the county.

All data we use is from the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) in the form of Quarterly Monitoring Data which we then update our website information and graphs with. Some of the information is perhaps hard to interpret so below we list some of the potential data caveats.

Definition: "An indrect job is one which cannot be specifically identified through the lifetime of the project but is attributable to it. For example a tourist facility expands using structural funding and a local firm needs to take on new staff as a result of the increase in business. It is possible to calculate these jobs on the basis of increased tourist spend."

Q: Do you include indrect job creation in your figures on this website?

A: Where information on numbers of jobs created and safeguarded are given regarding local objective 1 projects, these figures do include indirect jobs. Although indirect posts cannot be specifically identified during the lifetime of a project they are attributable to it.

Definition: "Jobs safeguarded are those which would have been lost if Objective 1 funding had not been made available."

Q: Are safeguarded jobs ever described as jobs created?

A: No, where we have a heading in our graphs called jobs created this figure does not include safeguarded jobs.

Definition: "Jobs created are those which occur on a permanent basis. They have no finite lifetime or they can be expected to last at least 10 years. They can be direct or indirect jobs."

Q: How many hours a week is a full time job according to your calculations?

A: Full time jobs make up a 30 hour week or more. This is consistent across all our data, (we use the same criteria as WEFO).

Definition: "Subregional job figures occur in Ceredigions regional data where Ceredigion is the lead partner on a regional project and projects outside the county can then be included in the figures."

Q: Does having regional projects where Ceredigion are the lead partner mean that jobs from other counties on that project can be included in the Ceredigion regional figures?

A: Yes, but only a very small percentage of regional project figures include subregional project figures (only where Ceredigion is lead partner and this is a minority of cases.
