Convergence Funding

Convergence funding is the successor to Objective 1 and is designed to help regions like West Wales and the Valleys complete the transition into a leading edge, competitive and knowledge-based economy. The new programmes aim to build on the progress that has been made during the current Objective 1 period. The West Wales and the Valleys region will receive €1.85 billion, equivalent to approximately £1.3 billion. There is uncertainty surrounding the start date of the convergence programmes but it is likely to be in the Autumn of 2007. There are 2 Convergence programmes for the West Wales and the Valleys region;

 

 

ERDF Priorities include:

Priority 1 - Building the Knowledge-Based Economy

Priority 2 - Improving Business Competitiveness

Priority 3 - Developing Strategic Infrastructure for a Modern Economy

Priority 4 - Attractive Sustainable Business Environment to Invest

Priority 5 - Building Sustainable Communities

ESF Priorities include:

Priority 1 - Supplying young people with the skills needed for employment

Priority 2 - Increasing Employment and Tackling Economic Inactivity

Priority 3 - Improving Skills Levels and Adaptibility of the Workforce

Priority 4 - Making the Connections, Modernising and Improving the Quality of our Public Services.

Priority 5 - Technical Assistance

It is anticiapated that wherever possible to deploy funds through Strategic Framework arrangments. However there will also be scope for single project direct bidding and project commissioning.
