AT LAST -"TANCS"...A LOCALLY BASED TRAINING FACILITY FOR OUR FUTURE WORKFORCE!

Instead of travelling hundreds of miles per month to Pembrokeshire College, Ceredigion's plumbing apprentices can now learn in style, using the latest technology, thanks to Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training's new Plumbing Training Facility based at Llanbadarn. The plumbing area has been designed specifically to meet the requirements of the latest curriculum and assessment changes to the Modern Apprenticeship Framework. In addition to this project covering plumbing, the centre also delivers in-house training in Mechanical Engineering and Wood Occupation. The official name for this project is "TANCS" (Traditional and New Construction Skills) and it has always been the aim of Project Officer Dafydd Jones, to encourage and support new developments in the industry, especially in eco plumbing and solar heating technology and the use of sustainable, renewable fuels. This innovative facility has received encouragement and help from the Centre for Alternative Technology, the West Wales Eco Centre, Ymlaen Ceredigion and the Mid Wales Energy Agency. The centre provides City and Guilds NVQ Training and by the end of 2007, it is intended that all of Ceredigion Training's plumbers will be training here. In the long term it is envisaged that provision of specific gas and oil courses can also be provided. From the outset, local employers will be involved with the Centre by the provision of short courses to upskill employees and trainees alike, in new products, changes in legislation and new technologies. Above all the project gives the chance of 'local access' to the latest technology and training.
